Blue Horizon is an almost acoustic four piece band that plays Gypsy Jazz, Dawg music, contemporary folk and jazz standards.
Blue Horizon is a four-piece ensemble specializing in Gypsy Jazz, nu-grass, folk and jazz standards. Their sets range from Django Reinhardt and David Grisman to Fats Waller and George Gershwin. The sound is composed of two guitars, fiddle, mandolin and electric bass plus soulful vocals and choirboy harmonies.
The members of the band have been friends and have played together in various configurations for nearly three decades. Their combined musical experience covers rock, folk, blues, jazz, classical and bluegrass. The members have played everywhere from Nashville guitar festivals to Boston’s famed Symphony Hall, with stops in between at rock clubs, cowboy bars and coffee houses. “Between us, we’ve played just about every genre of music there is. Except disco and rap.”
The players are Dan Ault - fiddle, mandolin and vocals Zach Bergen - lead guitar Peter LeVine - guitar and vocals Frank Tonge - electric bass and vocals
The band members first met and began playing together in Boulder, Colorado in the early 1970’s. They have continued to collaborate over the years while also raising families and pursuing careers. Now they’re all back together and playing better than ever. Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli tunes are particular favorites, but the music of contemporary Gypsies like Dorado Schmitt and Stochelo Rosenberg are exciting and little known gems. The group will also put their own spin on hot nu-grass tunes and loves to play acoustic versions of jazz standards from the 1930’s and earlier. Blue Horizon plays rhythmic, exciting music that always energizes an audience. Their aim is to make you tap your feet.
